Newham Watersmeet Woodcraft have been going since the early thirties.  The Woodcraft folk was developed after the first world war as a break away from the scout movement.

There is further information on the National Woodcraft website, and if that isn’t enough take a look at the Woodcraft Heritage site.

There are some artefacts from the early days on display at the Museum of London, and they can help you connect with a time of great experimentation after a terrible war.

Newham has a marvellous account of the history of Woodcraft as related by Irene Poole which can be viewed here.
